Janie’s Life Changing Baked Goods take on the Crookie

Written by Margaret Lavin

This past month, the creation of a crookie (a croissant filled with chocolate chip cookie dough, with pieces of cookie on the top of the croissant) has become popularized with social media. This social media frenzy over this seemingly intricate dessert has prompted bakeries to take the crookie, and put their own twist on it - creating their own unique recipes.

One bakery, here in New York CIty, that has begun selling their own version of the crookie is Janie’s Life Changing Baked Goods. More than just a bakery, Janie’s was founded by Janie Deegan who started to bake as a way to help cope with recovering from her addiction. With more baking, and much trial, Janie created Janie’s Life Changing Baked Goods.

I decided to try the crookie from Janie’s Life Changing Baked Goods for myself, intrigued to find out if it was worth the mass popularity. Janie’s Life Changing Baked Goods crookie is the perfect ratio of cookie to croissant. The cookie on the croissant adds a crispy sensation to your bite, and the croissant offers a soft, flaky compliment to the chocolatey cookie. While the crookie is slightly too large to finish in one sitting, every single bite is one of utter indulgence. Overall, I was very pleased with Janie’s Life Changing Crookie. I highly recommend trying the crookie, specifically from Janie’s Life Changing Baked Goods as you will be supporting a business whose mission is to give back to the community .
